A good return of those ballots will demonstrate to management that there is great support for the enforcement of the Local and National agreements. These contracts protect your salary, working conditions, and dignity. You have in Branch 78 a strong core of officers who, along with your Shop Stewards, strive to police these contracts and still provide a safe and compatible working environment. With all the new technology the Letter Carrier job is constantly changing and each individual will have to adjust to this new technology. It will be the Unions responsibility to not allow the new mechanical procedures to become a detriment to its members but to help them do their jobs easily and professionally. President Sombrotto put it best when he said. New technology should improve working conditions and not only benefit management but also its employees. I was saddened to learn of the death of George Bonner, Past President of Branch 78. If you were to ask me, who or what were responsible for my becoming involved in Union activity? I would say unequivocally, George Bonner. He asked me to serve as Financial Secretary in his term of office and Ive been involved ever since that time. Remember: You have to stand up for yourself before someone can stand in your support beside you.
