December Branch Meeting

 

Meeting called to order at 7:03pm by President Sharp. Invocation by Brother Bill Zimmerman. Pledge led by Tony Snyder. Minutes read by Yana Miller; accepted as read.

Ron Santavicca read letter from Red Cross and two applications for membership.

Education: Rocco Evangelista, a retirement seminar will be held the second Thursday in February.

Law: Dick Rappaport, nothing submitted.

Retirees: Jack LeVally, nineteen attended the Retiree Christmas Party. Jack Welch was able to attend.

Health Benefits: Bobby Kirk, Open Season just closed to early to report anything.

Public Relations: Bobby Solt, no report.

Social Rec: Yana Miller, no report.

Treasurer: Bill Pagano, read treasurer’s report. Jack LeVally inquired about how well we did in keeping with the budget. Bill reported we came in under budget with surplus.

RAA: Doug Gulley, no report.

Unfinished Business: Chuck Sharp reported that at the Central Labor Council meeting, D. Stokes, M. Kilroy and others are behind the State Prescription Drug Program. This bill may pass, if it does it may force drub companies to offer better prices, at least in Ohio.

New Business: Eddie Stewart made a motion to donate $1000 to One New Toy, seconded by Bobby Kirk, Motion passed.

Safety & Health: Tony Snyder, they are working on a policy on chain application and removal. Replacement cleats are available, contact Tony Snyder or Dexter Blake. Gary Porter, submitted a 1767 nothing has been done to resolve the problem. Tony never received a copy will check into it. Carl Demko, can’t they do preventative maintenance? That’s the purpose of the quarterly vehicle checks. Ron Santavicca, have managers request materials ie: lock lubricant, de-icer, etc…

Return to New Business: New member Brandy Grant, inducted into Branch. Westland not able to wear t-shirt and shorts while casing. Don Shepherd curious about blue book analyst and him changing books and labels without input from regular carrier. Artie Armstrong thanked stewards for their service and turnout for Appreciation dinner. D. Doherty, carrier needs a new Allowance credit card. Linda Morgan advised him to call credit card company. R. Mitchell stated to contact Ron Edwards at Wasserman, he worked same problem out for him. T. Wilson advised to call 800 # on back of card. There was a lot of discussion on the scans and identifying routes. Chuck will take these matters up at Labor/Mgmt meeting. Since they keep adding scans we can use the scans to show the routes are over burdened. Basically, everyday will be an inspection day. Jackie Reichart, DOIS reporting routes under volume. There is an increase in letter mail coming in with flats. Additionally, letters are getting lodged in the flats, customers are returning them and not happy about it.

Reminder: Since the present contract is extended be sure to have Stewards start vacation sign-up lists Jan 2, 2002. Don’t wait around.

Good of Service: Gahanna brought in toys with retail of $2611 for One New Toy. Chuck Sharp, at the Central Labor Council luncheon, several members stated how Gladden Community House praised the NALC for One New Toy. Also, Local 969 needs volunteers to help with holiday program UAW hall of West Broad St.
