Legislative Update (7-7-16)

Comments on House OGR Committee’s draft postal bill
Jul 07, 2016

On June 15, following release of a discussion draft of the Postal Service Reform Act of 2016, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform asked postal stakeholders to submit comments to gauge support for the measure.  NALC submitted its comments to the committee and joined a group of stakeholders, including postal unions, postal management and several mailing industry associations, to emphasize the many positive proposals contained in the bill.  In addition, the group commented on provisions that could undermine the bill’s chances of success, most notable language calling for cuts to door delivery.  The draft legislation is now expected to be formally introduced by the committee and marked up as early as next week.
